Private soldier, 2nd Battalion, South Staffords, Operation Market Garden. September 1944.

This is the typical uniform worn by members of the 1st Air landing brigade, he is wearing the maroon berry with regimental cap badge with standard 37 pattern battledress jacket and trousers under his Denison smock.



Back view, with small pack, large spade, large toggle rope and entrenching tool.














On his left hip is the lightweight respirator, introduced in 1942 and mk 2 airborne helmet slung from his left utility pouch.








He is carrying the standard infantry rifle, the Enfield mk4 no 2, first introduced in 1942 to replace the outdate SMLE rifle.
